Harley-Davidson Issues Recall for 65,000 Motorcycles.
Harley-Davidson has issued an official recall for 21 different models of motorcycles to replace a potentially faulty fastener that secures the rear shock to the frame.
“Operator or passenger may detect a noise from under the seat. In addition, a loose rear shock adjuster may be noted if the seat is removed. Also, if the rear shock adjuster is making contact with the rear tire, difficulty manoeuvering the motorcycle may be experienced and in addition, non-typical wear may be noted on the tire,” the NHTSA Part 573 Safety Recall Report said.
This recall affects more than 65,000 individual motorcycles manufactured between June 28, 2017, and August 7, 2023.
Softails are mainly affected by this recall. Models that have an issued recall include:
- 2018 and 2019 FLDE
- 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 FLHC
- 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 FLHCS
- 2018 and 2023 FLHCS ANV
- 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 FXLRS
- 2022 and 2023 FXLRST
- 2022 FXRST
If you have a Harley-Davidson model included in this recall, you should receive a letter from Harley-Davidson issued on September 5 regarding your motorcycle. You can also go to the Harley-Davidson recall page and input your VIN to see if your bike has a recall issued on it.
The recall number for the rear shock fastener is 0181. If your bike is affected by this recall you can go to your closest HD dealership and have the fastener replaced free of charge.
