BMW GS Trophy About to Kick Off in Thailand
Costa Mouzouris is in Thailand, taking part in the 2016 BMW GS Trophy as a member of Team Canada.
Attending journalists had to first take part in a two-day training programme, as past events had proven somewhat difficult for some riders. Today was the second media training day, and riders were met by unseasonable rainfall, which made the steep, rutted hill climbs more difficult. Even event organizers had never before ridden the route in the rain.
“We shall find out today what the trails are like in the rain for the first time.” Said route planner Tomm Wolf in the pre-ride briefing. The clay-like mud was almost as slick as ice.
Today’s route, which is part of the route all participants will ride on the first day of the event this Sunday, included some narrow, twisty dirt roads, some tight concrete roads, and single-track trails.
According to Mouzouris, who’s taking part in his second GS Trophy, after attending the 2010 GS Trophy in South Africa, event organizers have put together one of the toughest GS Trophy events since the first one in 2008.
